Weekend Update

My friend Kim is here visiting so we've been having FUN. Kim and I spent Friday at the mall and even got pedicures - what a treat! Saturday we went to Cleveland and spent the day with her "friend" Martain. We went to the Natural History Museum and caused all kinds of trouble.

This one is my favorite. See any signs of intelligent life?
Here is a belly pic for you belly-lovers
I can only take so much of "learning" and "education" before I just have to sit down and put my feet up.
And here is Kimmie and Martain
Look out for our BOY or GIRL post tomorrow night! The votes everywhere are heavily in favor of a girl! Right now if I hear "it's a BOY" I'll be SHOCKED!
Please pray that little baby Hubbard is a bit of a showoff and we don't have to come home still calling our baby a he/she.

P.S. We will post a "baby item of the week" later this week! I have one, just didn't get a chance to take a picture!

Half Baked

Our baby, that is. (Jason informs me that "half baked" means "stoned"... I can assure you that is NOT what I mean!)

20 weeks down...20 weeks to go!

So...will our baby be clad in PINK or BLUE? We find out on Monday...what do YOU think?

And now for the weekend update...

This weekend started off with a hot date...to the grocery store, Babies R Us, and Sam's Club. We were out of everything, right down to toilet paper. No need to worry, we are now stocked up and papered up.

Saturday found us doing the usual...eating a yummy breakfast (cinnamon rolls!) and then parking ourselves in front of the TV for a few hours with a few loads of laundry to fold. The highlight of my weekend was catching my husband watching cartoons...not once but twice. He claims he was screening the cartoons to determine which ones would be appropriate for our child. Do you buy that? He was also very upset to find out that Tom and Jerry are now able to speak. Apparently that is just not right.

We escaped on Saturday afternoon to go to the dollar theater. It blows my mind that it only costs $2 to go to a movie at this theater. The popcorn was not that cheap.

Saturday night we had another marriage class at our church. Jerry and Karen Denny were visiting and we had an opportunity to talk with them quite a bit. (The Dennys are Wayne's parents and Hilary's in-laws). It was nice to see some familiar faces, even though we had previously only met a few times.

Sunday morning was spent at church, followed by fellowship dinner. I brought a fresh fruit salad which was completely demolished - and I really wanted those leftovers! We both had naps this afternoon and now this evening we are getting ready for another week. An exciting week...as my friend Kim arrives this Thursday and will stay for nine days! Yay, girl time for me! Please pray for Jason :)

Our baby item(s) of the week relate to the baby's health and the parent's sanity. I was told my life would be changed forever by the contents of these three magic boxes. Hopefully we won't have to use them that often!

Here is a photo of us with the Dennys
Please also pray for us this week as Jason has an appointment with a surgeon where we can hopefully get some answers to some health problems he's been having. I won't go into detail here, but if you want to know more, feel free to e-mail me and I'll give you more information. We are thinking it will end up being a minor procedure but we covet your prayers!

We have now entered the mango stage...the baby is approximately 6 inches (that measures from his/her head to his/her little baby butt) and weighs 8.5 ounces. Next Monday we find out if we can call "it" a HE or a SHE officially. We will certainly be breaking that news on our blog!

Have a great week...thanks for catching up on news with the Hubbards!

Haven of Rest Banquet

Last night we went to one of the Haven's fundraising banquets. We invited Ian and Katie and also John and Karen from our church. Here is a photo of us with John and Karen; I missed out on a picture with Ian and Katie!
These are the resident men on the year-long program at the Haven that Jason works with directly. They sing at every banquet and it is my favorite part. They sound amazing and many of them are filled with such joy! If you click on the picture, you can see that all different ages and races are represented. Sometimes they give Jason a headache but for the most part, he loves his job!

Weekend Update #17

This update is short...no baby item of the week...no clever little stories... all I have to offer you is snow, 16 inches of it! We've been snowed in since Friday night and I have CABIN FEVER! (Think Jack Nicholson in The Shining...yeah, I'm about to lose it!)

I did manage to memorize the entire interweb including all websites about babies, we played a lot of games, and we watched way too much TV.

I have some pictures but blogger isn't cooperating...maybe I can post them tomorrow!

Our baby is the size of a sweet potato this week, which seems a little weird.

Alright, I better go...I think I'm going to chop down some doors with my axe. (Okay, no more Stephen King movies for me!)

Grandma = Slave Driver?

I knew it wouldn't be long before my mom put these two to work.

Don't worry, Addie and Reese, she used to do the same to me. You two should probably do some reading on child labor laws.

(Just kidding, MOM!)

Bumpity Bump Bump

If ANYONE says "WOW, you are BIG!" or "You must be having TWINS" or even THINKS the word "big" these pics will come down! You have been warned!

The bump at 17 1/2 weeks
HAHAHA...that pictures was FAKE!
That's how big I would be if I was giving birth
to our living room throw pillow!
Admit it, your jaw dropped!
:)

Here is the REAL bump
The baby is really poking his/her little body out this week!
He/She is five inches long and weighs five ounces.

I will be glad when I can stop calling our baby a he/she.

Weekend Update #16

Weekend Update #16?? That's right, folks. We've lived in Akron for four months. Those of you who promised to miss us probably didn't even notice we were gone, right?

Our weekend highlight was hearing the baby's heartbeat again. We had an appointment on Friday afternoon and the little heart was pittering away in the 160s. If you are keeping score, that means we've had two heart rates in the "girl range" according to the old wives tale. We have our ultrasound scheduled for March 24, and will be sure to update you all with the sex of the baby. We can't WAIT to find out. Let's hope our baby is an exhibitionist and not of the shy, modest sort. And let's hope that changes before he or she leaves the womb! By some sort of miracle, I have not gained any weight in this pregnancy. This is odd because I seem to put on weight like it's the cool thing to do. I suppose I can expect it all to come during the second half of the pregnancy. Especially since I have not denied myself anything since the nausea has stopped!

I find it a relief to hear a strong heartbeat as I occasionally get a little anxious before our appointments. We are thankful for short and sweet appointments as it means that things are progressing normally. Our midwife is very friendly and we both like her. Although I do find it funny that when I ask the midwife a question, her answer matches perfectly with my sister-in-law, Shannon. Shannon is chock full of knowledge about pregnancy. And since she's currently on maternity leave, I can bug her until April with my silly questions!

Our second highlight of the weekend was finding a dollar theater about 15 minutes from our house. SCORE! We saw Enchanted on Friday night, and before you make fun of Jason for venturing to such a girly movie, we had heard that it wasn't that bad for guys. We both enjoyed it despite the overflowing theater and the crying babies. Hey, if it only cost $1 to see the movie, you can't expect much! We will definitely be visiting that place often.

Saturday we did a bare minimum of housework, rented a few movies from Blockbuster, and relaxed. Jason completed a project for me that makes me very happy; he installed two extra shelves in the armoire that holds my clothes. The armoire used to hold our TV so it was full of wasted space. He just used some simple plywood that we had cut at Lowe's and I covered it with shelf liner. Here's a before and after photo:
I was going to organize my shoes, but I figured why bother. You all are my friends and you'd know it was only for the picture. Also, Jason thinks I have too many. HA!
This brings us to the baby item of the week. We decided on a digital ear thermometer for this week's item. We stopped at Babies R Us and they have an entire aisle of thermometers. We were feeling a little overwhelmed and so Jason asked an employee for some help. Here's how the conversation went:

J: Ma'am, could you help us with these thermometers? Is one better than the other or are all the different brands the same?
E: Well, a rectal thermometer--
J: (interrupts) NO.
E: But a rectal thermometer is the most accurate for finding baby's--
J: (interrupts) Not doing that. (shaking head)
E: (eyes wide)...O-KAY...well, ear is the next best followed by mouth and underarm...blah blah...

HA HA HA HA!!! Couldn't you just see Jason having this conversation?

Jason informed me that under no circumstances would he be sticking a thermometer anywhere below the neck. So we picked out one for baby's ear and left.
Our baby is the size of an onion now. I meant to take a baby bump picture but totally forgot (really, I did!) and you don't want to see one now (I look awful) so I'll have to promise one for next week. There is still not much to see - but I will oblige to the demands of my fans...LOL!

Have a great week!
Love,
Angie, Jason, and Baby Onion

Jason's tips on taking care of babies

Well, here we go again folks! More ramblings from the idiot. Angie seems to think that you people out there actually want to hear from me periodically, so today I decided I would try to include some proper instructions on how to care for babies. I figure if my brother-in-law Jeff ever wants to babysit then he needs to know some of this important stuff. I'll be honest, some of it was news to me - especially the info on clearing baby's nose.
P.S. Erik Kohl, wouldn't this have been good to know before you had kids?
