Holiday and Weekend Update #3

Just for fun, I'm going to recap this holiday weekend backwards...(I know, I'm so crazy).

Today I went to church by myself. Jason volunteered to work the weekend at the mission, so it was up to me to be the Hubbard church representative. I went to The Chapel, which is pretty much the only church that I can find all by myself. This week, I kept my bulletin safely tucked in my Bible and out of the reach of the wayward hands of my neighbors. I enjoyed the service immensely. This week the huge choir was decked out in robes, and the orchestra sounded amazing. The opening solo was sung by a man who's voice sounded just like Josh Groban. It was incredibly moving. We sang songs of thanksgiving and also one of my favorites, "In Christ Alone." The message was by Pastor Jay Halley - another good speaker. The Chapel does not lack in gifted teachers of the Word!

Saturday
Since Jason was at work, I was able to do some work myself. I sat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and edited the first draft of Journey magazine for about 4 hours. Have I mentioned that I love my job?! The articles in the next issue are great - even though I was editing, I was gleaning! I spent a few hours out in the afternoon Christmas shopping for my nieces - they are so fun to buy for (see previous blog for humorous conversation with a serious little girl). Saturday night I went off to Starbucks with a book in hand (peppermint mocha in the other) while Jason watched some college football.

Friday
I worked and Jason worked. I went to the grocery store and bought food for the week - the store was almost empty - except for the one lady who cute me off in the checkout line. She was desperate to get in front of me - we almost had a cart collision! That night we went to Eddie Bauer and bought our family presents (I drew Dad's name and Jason drew my mom's name). I can look for presents at other places, but I always end up at good ol' EB. I think my seven years of part-time employment has brainwashed me.

Thursday
Thanksgiving! We went to the mission for the 11:30 chapel service. I forgot the camera - stupid me! We sat in the chapel with about 140 homeless men and women. I can't even describe it - but I felt incredibly blessed and grateful for all that I have been given. Afterwards we gathered up a delicious thanksgiving dinner from the kitchen and headed home to be lazy all day. We played a couple games, watched a movie, and stayed in our sweats all day after a turkey-induced nap. I'll be honest - it was a tough day for me, being away from family and friends, but we still had a good time just being together.

Wednesday
I worked and Jason worked. We went to The Chapel for the Thanksgiving Eve service. It was a great service with a good message and nice singing - not the full choir, orchestra, or Josh Groban - but still very nice! Afterwards we stopped at Starbucks and picked up two peppermint mochas, headed home and decorated the tree while watching White Christmas. Ah, nothing says Christmas quite like Bing Crosby. Jason acted like he didn't want to watch it but I think I heard him singing along. I had planned to wait until later in the weekend to decorate, but I just couldn't wait. We are starting to collect ornaments and it was fun to unwrap our ornaments that we bought this year - a Colorado ornament to remember our honeymoon, a St. Louis arch ornament, and last year's purchases for each other. Not to mention several ornaments from Grace, who has given me an ornament every year - even before I had a tree!

You'll notice that I'm missing the star on top! I'll have to find one this year.
My gift to Jason last year - it even plays the song!
His gift to me - good call on his part!
St. Louis
Colorado
And my favorite

That about sums it up. I'm just going to kill time for the rest of the day waiting for Jason to get home - presumably with a book, fleece blanket, and feet up on the ottoman. Rumor has it that he's taking me out for dinner - we still haven't used that gift certificate that someone gave us as a late wedding gift. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and you better get shopping because Christmas is coming!

Just remember the rule. If you know what you're getting, you don't get it!

Yeah... I was with Dave's family, but it was rough not being with you guys and the Mom and Dad and Nathan and Shannon and, of course, the girls. Looking forward to Christmas!

It looks great! Lexi will be bummed to have missed helping put up the tree. It's tradition. I love the H ornament, it's perfect! Missed you this weekend. It was good to chat, but would be better in person. I haven't found the perfect ornaments for this year. How does the cool one that you got at Cranberry Festival look on there?
